D-Mannose for Urinary Tract Infections

By: Norm Shealy, M.D. On: 12/15/2011 15:53:31 In: Integrating Medicine

In both men and women urinary tract infections (UTI’s) are one of the plagues of existence. E-coli is the most common “cause” of such infections, being the responsible agent in 85% or more of UTI’s in men and women.

Repeated bouts of UTI are not only disabling but potentially serious. The organisms often develop “immunity” to the most common antibiotics, Cipro ® and Keflex ®.

And, of course, these drugs create many gastrointestinal problems, because they also kill the friendly probiotics so essential to our lives. The solution in a significant majority of sufferers — D-Mannose! Safe and remarkably effective, D-Mannose is not metabolized, does not raise blood sugar and passes out in the urine.

E-coli are much more attracted to D-Mannose than they are to the bladder lining, and they then go out every time you urinate. Furthermore, resistance to D-Mannose appears not to occur! A teaspoon about 4 or 5 times a day flushes the bugs away!
